The Attributes of the Quran |
In the Qur'an, the following attributes of the Qur'an have
been mentioned along with the word 'Qur'an':
1. Arabiyyan
which means: Arabic i.e. plain, clear and distinct
وَكَذَلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ قُرْآنًا
عَرَبِيًّا
"Thus have We sent to you by inspiration, an Arabic Qur'an... [42:7]
إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَعَلَّكُمْ
تَعْقِلُونَ
"We have revealed it an Arabic Qur'an, that you may
(use your mind,) understand (it and become intelligent and
wise)." [12:2]
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَعَلَّكُمْ
تَعْقِلُونَ
"We have made it an Arabic Qur'an, that you may
(use your mind,) understand (it and become intelligent and
wise)." [43:3]
قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا غَيْرَ ذِي عِوَجٍ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ
"(It is) a Qur'an in Arabic, without any crookedness
(therein): in order that they may keep from deviation. "
[39:28]
كِتَابٌ فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لِقَوْمٍ
يَعْلَمُونَ
"A Book, the verses of which are fully detailed,
an Arabic Qur'an, for people who have knowledge." [41:3]
2. Mubeen
which means: Clear, plain, perspicuous, distinct, eloquent,
manifest, distinguishing and distinguished
الر تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ
مُبِينٍ
"A. L. R. These are the Ayats of the Book - of a Qur'an
that is clear and makes things clear." [15:1]
وَمَا عَلَّمْنَاهُ الشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنْبَغِي
لَهُ إِنْ هُوَ إِلا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْآنٌ مُبِينٌ
"We have not instructed the (Prophet) in Poetry, nor is it
meet for him: this is no less than an exhortation and a Qur'an
that is clear and makes things clear: " [36:69]
3. Azeem
which means: Great, Grand
وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيم
"...and the Grand Qur'an. " [15:87]
4. Hakeem
which means: Containing wisdom and judgments or judicious
decisions
وَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِيم
"And the Qur'an that is full of wisdom." [36:2]
5. Kareem
which means: Highly esteemed or prized or valued; Excellent,
precious, honourable, valuable and rare
إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ
"That this is indeed a Qur'an Most Honourable, " [56:77]
6. Ajaban
which means: Extraordinary, wonderful
قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ
مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا
"Say, "I was inspired that a group of jinns listened, then
said, `We have heard a wonderful Qur'an." [72:1]
7. Majeed
which means: Illustrious, glorious, splendid, noble,
abounding in good
ق وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ
"Qaf: By the Glorious Qur'an" [50:1]
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَجِيدٌ
"Indeed, it is a glorious Qur'an." [85:21]
